Creating a passenger list database (maybe?)

I'm putting the passenger list posts on hold for a bit.

What I really want to do with the Holland-America Line Passenger list of the SS Volendam, 8 August 1950, is create a *simple* database that is searchable.  I've been researching which free database hosting sites are out there.
This review from Lifehacker has been useful: http://www.lifehack.org/articles/technology/8-web-databases-for-tracking-collecting-and-recording-data.html

The free choices are a bit slim, but I think that I'm going try out Zoho Creative.  Dabble DB is also a free possibility, and I'm not worried about data privacy because I want to make it public.  I haven't found *ANY* information for genealogists on how to build a database on a blog.  The current March/April issue of Family Tree Magazine has a great article about sharing information through Facebook, Google+, forums, GEDCOM, and blogs, but this doesn't take that next step.

I hope that I'm not over-thinking this project.  My librarian-zeal for easy of access to information is what's pushing me to do this.  I've studied Digital Libraries formally in the classroom, and used SQL and Coldfusion to build a database project.  Now, I'm going to find out I can do this with Blogger, Microsoft Excel, and Zoho.  If anyone has any experience adding a searchable database hosted by a free site onto a blog, I'd love to hear from you.

I'm going to be doing some more software/database/blog research.
